Exactly 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story film debuted, launching the animation giant as a leading film company and bringing audiences to iconic characters like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a brief look into the plot but keeping viewers curious how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys

The preview reveals the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a latest plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer avoids is what Woody is back with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and helping giveaway items find good homes.

Surely, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with him. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The last thing Woody did before departing for his new life was hand over his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the badge attached to her shirt.

It is hoped she is still the key figure among the toys.
