“That was unfortunate. That was essentially an exchange with our fans out in front of us,” Jones explained during a radio appearance. “Present was a large group of Cowboys fans—not Jets fans, our fans. The entire stadium was brimming with enthusiasm for the Dallas team.”
He further emphasized that the gesture was completely accidental, occurring amid the elation following the team’s final touchdown. “I just put up the incorrect finger,” he remarked. “The action was accidentally performed. I’m not kidding. If you want to call it unplanned, you can. However, it got resolved rapidly.”
Historical Precedent for Owner Fines
This incident isn’t the first time an league proprietor has been penalized for misconduct. Previous cases include:
- Panthers owner David Tepper was fined $300,000 for throwing a drink at fans in January 2024.
